Inspiration for the
Música Series
My favorite song of all time
is the original version of
"The Girl From Ipanema" ---
I play this song repeatedly and frequently. For me, "the girl"
is a reminder to stay in touch with my joy, to embody my feminity, and to be fully
present with myself regardless of exernal inflluences.
One night while listening to "The Girl..." I was flooded with memories of the year that I
lived in Puerto Vallarta, and the myriad of experiences I have had since on my "art holidays"
to San Miguel de Allende and Puerto Escondido. I want to go back again and again.
The music took over and a new series was born ---paintings
that are infused with the
passion and freedom I feel
when I am in Mexico, surrounded by the sounds, scents, music and heat, and
the warmth of its people.
A humorous view on love, "Besame Mucho" was the
first song I learned to sing in Spanish. You will find bits of sheet music from this song
and "The Girl From Ipanema"
imbeded in most of
paintings of this series.
Each song, in its own way, speaks to hope and romance and the belief that anything is possible if you desire it enough. And so, my paintings also
speak to love in its many forms from budding romance to love everlasting. It all starts with
a desire or a kiss.... that
lasts all night long.
